Phewa Lake is the second largest lake of Nepal after the Rara Lake. This lake located at an altitude of 742 m (2434 ft) and covers the area of 4.43 km sq. The maximum depth of this lake is 24m and the average depth is 8.6m with the maximum water capacity of 43,000,000 cubic meters. This is only one lake to have a temple Tal Barahi Temple at the centre of the Lake. The Tal Barahi Temple is situated on an island in the lake.This temple located 4 km far from the city’s centre Chipledhunga. This lake is also one of the most visited and popular lake in Nepal. Phewa Lake lies in the south of Pokhara Valley, which includes Pokhara city parts of Sarangkot and Kaskikot, in Kaski district. Pokhara city is also known as the queen of city in Nepal. The lake is also famous for the reflection of the beautiful mountain peak of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range on its surface. Among them the Annapurna range on the north is only 28 km far from the lake.
The major tourist attraction of Pokhara Valley is Phewa Lake and water sports. The north shore of the lake has been developed into the tourist district, commonly called Lakeside, which is famous for hotels, restaurants and bar catering for the tourists. This side is one of the best known tourist areas in Nepal, which also known as the starting point of the tour to Pokhara. There is also Phewa Power House which is used to generate electricity from the Phewa Lake’s water. This power house is located about 1.5 km far from the southern part of the Phewa Lake. There is also a part for commercial caged fisher in the lake. Also you can book a boat and can go for boating in the lake. You can take the full enjoyment of the boating with the beauties of nature.
Tal Bharahi Temple is the most important religious monument of Pokhara, which located at the centre of Phewa Lake. This temple gets crowded on Saturday. This two-storied pagoda is believed to be dedicated to one of the Hindu gods known as Lord Vishnu. The Hindu devotees from different parts of Nepal visit this place. Sarankot is famous for the paragliding from where people can fly over the Fewa Lake. This Sarankot paragliding is one of the world’s third largest paragliding locations. The view of the lake, mountain ranges and the Pokhara valley looks like heaven from the sky while doing paragliding. People from different countries come to visit the natural beauties of this place. Most of the tourist loves to visit this place among the tourist areas of Nepal. So, this place is quite expensive. The Lakeside is a wonderful place to just sit and relax and enjoy the serenity and the tranquility of the nature. You can see many tourists from different countries who love to walk around the Lakeside. There are all kinds of facilities in this area, such as heath, hotel & restaurant, road-ways, small and big shops, etc. Different kinds of continental foods like, Italian, Thai, Indian, French, Burmese, Chinese, and Japanese and Nepali options are available in the restaurant of Lakeside.
The area is green and clean. There are some beautiful places to visit in Lakeside of Pokhara. They are, World Peace Pagoda, Varahi Temple, Gurkha Museum, International Mountain Museum and Devi’s fall. If you visit Pokhara Phewa Lake once in your life, then do not forget to do some memorial things. They are; paragliding, trekking, whitewater rafting and kayaking, boating and lounging by the Lakeside.
September to November is the best months to visit Pokhara city and the Phewa Lake. It is also considered as the peak tourist season. December to February is the coldest months in this area.
