Uttarakhand teenager Srishti Goswami will take charge as the chief minister of the state for a day on Sunday on the occasion of National Girl Child Day. The 19-year-old will take part in the child assembly session in Dehradun. National Girl Child Day is celebrated on January 24. The initiative was introduced in 2008 by the ministry of women and child development and has been observed since with the purpose of spreading awareness on the rights of the girl child, their education and health, and providing support.

As part of her duties as CM, Goswami will review the schemes, including Atal Ayushman Scheme, Smart City project, Homestay Scheme by the tourism department, and other development projects, run by the state government. She will administer from Gairsain, Uttarakhand’s summer capital. Goswami, while overwhelmed at the opportunity to govern the state for a day, said that would do her best to prove that “youth can excel in administration while working for people’s welfare”.

The Haridwar teen, who lives in Daulatpur village, is a student of BSc Agriculture. She had been the chief minister of Uttarakhand Bal Vidhan Sabha in 2018. Her father Praveen Puri, who runs a small shop in Daulatpur, said that his brilliant daughter wants to work for the upliftment of girl students everywhere. Goswami’s mother works at an Anganwadi. Authorities and officials from various departments of the government have given Goswami a detailed presentation before she takes over as the chief minister. The Uttarakhand Child Rights Protection Commission had written a letter to the chief secretary of the state in this regard. “The arrangements regarding this have already been made in the state assembly building in Gairsain. Srishti has been working with us for a while now and we are well aware of her capabilities,” said Usha Negi, the Chairperson of the Commission, in a statement.
