December 20, 2020 : The government has recommended the name of former Home Secretary Prem Kumar Rai as the Chief Commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Timilsina, who is also a member of the Constitutional Council, said that Rai’s name was recommended at a meeting of the Constitutional Council on December 15. A meeting of the Constitutional Council on December 16 decided to recommend Rai as the chief commissioner of the authority, sources said.
The government had brought the ordinance after the meeting of the Constitutional Council was convened to fill the vacancies in the Constitutional Commission.
A meeting of the Constitutional Council that followed the ordinance recommended Rai’s name to the chief commissioner, but the decision was kept secret.
On the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Bidyadevi Bhandari has dissolved the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament today and announced new elections on April 3 and 4. The prime minister’s move has been criticized by ruling, opposition parties and legal experts.
