Kathmandu. It has been revealed that the debtor and the branch manager of the bank are involved in the banking malpractice case. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of the police has arrested the managers and former managers of various branch offices of Mahalakshmi Development Bank today.
Among the arrested are Smriti Rana, then branch manager of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9, Gaushala, Pinku Palikhe, branch manager of Chandragiri, Kaski, Pokhara, and Anish Singh Sinjapati, branch manager of Lalitpur, Biratnagar, Morang.
According to Bel Bahadur Pandey, Superintendent of Police of the Bureau, they have taken more loans by showing high weight of low weight gold jewelery in collusion with the debtor and have not paid interest till now. They have caused a loss of Rs 74.26 million to the bank.
According to the Banking Offenses and Punishment Act, 2064 BS, the debtor was arrested on November 11 in connection with the investigation of the banking offenses. The arrested debtors are Purna Rai of Khotang, Devananda Rai and Sandeep Limbu of Dhankuta, police said.
